Preschool class pictures will be Thursday, September 24^th, during school time.  Steve Sheldon will be coming down from Bloomington to take the pictures.  There will be both individual and class pictures taken.  Proofs will be sent home later and pictures can be ordered then.  Money is not needed when the pictures are taken.  Please give us a good email address for Steve to send information to you when the pictures are ready to order.

In our safety unit we are presenting dangers and what to do or how to avoid them.  We want the children to be aware.  If you have any questions, please let us know.

Please remember to call us before class starts if your child is not going to be here.

We will be closed for Fall Break for preschool from October 15^th to 17^th.  We will also be closed for daycare from October 14^th to 18^th.

About Your Teachers

          Rohnda is married to Bob, who is a retired fisheries research biologist at the Avoca Fish Hatchery.  She has two daughters—Rena (see below) and Robyn.  Rohnda has a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University in elementary education with a minor in kindergarten.  She holds a master’s degree from Indiana University in elementary education with an emphasis in early childhood.  Rohnda began teaching third grade at Brownstown Elementary.  This is her 34^th year to have Sunshine School.  Rohnda and Rena attend Englewood Baptist Church.  Rohnda likes to collect magnets and owls and to read, read, read, and read when she can find the time.

          Rena graduated from Milligan College in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood and elementary education.  This is her 20^th year teaching.  She likes to collect keychains, to read, shop, and watch sports, particularly IU basketball and the Atlanta Braves.

Harvest Party and Picture Reminder Note

A couple of reminders:  Tomorrow, Wednesday, October 31^st, we will be having our Harvest Party, instead of a Halloween Party.  The children need to come to class dressed as something related to farming or autumn (or something else not scary).  Will the following children please bring a special treat for our party:  Finley Crane, Jack Crouch, Rebekah Ford, and Henley Free.  We divide the class up to have some kids bringing snacks to each party.

This month your child will explore the world of learning and will develop many new basic skills.  Encourage your child to practice and develop these new skills.  During this month we will study about colors, letters, airplanes, alligators, bears, cats, dogs, eggs, frogs, and grandparents.  Our calendar shows when we are studying each color and letter.  We will introduce a new color every day and two new letters each week.

For the year each child needs to bring the following:  1 package of napkins (200 count) and 1 box of tissues (200 count).

If your child is sick or will not be attending, please call and let us know before class begins.  If your child misses one day in a week, it is still to be paid for.  If your child misses 2 days in a row, he will get credit for the second day the next week.

Please put your child’s name on their coat, sweater, or any other items brought from home.  Please double knot your child’s shoes.

We will come out and get the children for class.  Please do not come inside the gate.  We will also bring the children back out to the gate after class.  Also, please hand us any money or other things instead of putting them in the child’s backpacks.  Thank you.

Here are a few tips for clothing for Picture Day:

*  Make sure the outfit fits well and is not too large or small.

*  Solid colors are best.  Stripes and patterns detract from the face.

*  Individual portraits will be both close up nad full length.

*  Keep outfits simple.

Don't forget that we're collecting labels for the Tyson Project A+ and Labels for Education.  You can bring any labels that you have when you want.  The Labels for Education program has double UPC’s (i.e. 1-point labels are worth 2 points instead) starting October 1^st.  We need those by November 13^th to mail them in time.  A complete list of items included in that program is attached.

This month your child will explore the world of learning and will develop many new basic skills.  Encourage your child to practice and develop these new skills.  During the coming weeks, we will study about Fall, colors, letters, manners, Johnny Appleseed, and grandparents.  Our calendar shows when we are studying each color and letter.  We will introduce a new color every day and two new letters each week.

We would ask you to send a snack for the class each month on the first day of the month.  There are currently 18 children in the class.  Example:  If you send a package of cookies make sure that there will be two cookies for each child.  Please send the same snack for everyone.

For the year each child needs to bring the following:  1 box of tissues (200 count), 1 package of napkins (200 count), and 1 box of 5-ounce Dixie cups (200 count).

If your child is sick or will not be attending, please call before class begins.  If your child misses one day in a week, it is still to be paid for.  If your child misses 2 days in a row, he will get credit for the second day the next week.

Please put your child’s name on their coat, sweater, or any other items brought from home.  Please double knot your child’s shoes.

We will come out and get the children for class.  Please do not come inside the gate.  We will also bring the children back out to the gate after class.

School pictures will be on Wednesday, September 19^th, during school time.  Steve Sheldon will be coming down from Bloomington to take the pictures.  There will be both individual and class pictures taken.  Proofs will be sent home later and pictures can be ordered then.  Money is not needed when the pictures are taken. 

Show and Tell will begin in October.

Picture Proofs Due Thursday
