Graduation Day Reminder


Just a reminder:  There will be no class this Thursday, May 24th.  We will have daycare regular hours that day.

Graduation will be that night, Thursday, May 24th, at 7:00 p.m.  All the graduates need to be here at the preschool at 6:45 to get ready.  Graduation will begin at 7:00 for parents, relatives, and friends.  It will be here at the preschool.  Graduation is only for those who will be attending kindergarten next year.  The children will be wearing caps and gowns.  Girls—please do not wear ponytails or anything on top of your head.  Refreshments will follow the ceremony.

On Thursday, May 17th, we will have a picnic and activities at the Lake Monroe Overlook from 10:00 to 2:00.  Everyone will need to bring a sack lunch and 2 cans of pop or juice.  We again need parents to drive and help.  Please let us know if you can help.

April 2012 Newsletter

We will begin practicing graduation songs this month.

Kindergarten screening at Dollens is Thursday, March 29th.  Please call the school (275-3885) to schedule an individual time for your child.  For children that will be attending other schools, contact that school for screening dates and to schedule a time for your child.  Birth certificates are required at screening.

The Easter Party will be on Thursday, April 5th.  There are 14 people in the class.  Will the following mothers please send a special snack for this:  Owen Robbins, Emily Bradford, Mylee Branaman, and Alex Carmichael.

Thursday, April 19th, is our trip to Spring Mill from 10 to 2.  Please let us know if you can drive and help us.  Everyone needs to bring a sack lunch and 2 cans of pop or juice.  We do not go to the souvenir stand.

Coming up in May:

Snow Day and Spring Break


Just a reminder:  We will be open for daycare on Friday, March 16th.  This is a scheduled snow make-up day that the kids will have off unless there’s a snow day before then.  Please let us know if your kids will be coming or not.  If they are coming, they need to bring a lunch with them.

Also, we can tutor kids that day, either at their regular time or earlier.  Please let us know so that we can schedule a time.

We will be closed for daycare, preschool, and tutoring the week of Spring Break, March 19th-23rd.

Open Snow Days

Reminder:  On Tuesday, February 14th, we will be having a Valentine’s Day Party and Card Exchange.  We will be making Valentine Delivery Trucks for our valentine cards.  Please do not put names on the valentine envelopes.  Each child sends one to everyone in the class, but they just sign their name on the back of the card and leave the envelope blank.  There are 13 people in the class.  These may be brought from the 7th to the 9th.

Thank you for sending all of the delicious snacks at the beginning of each month.

We will begin going through the alphabet again.  This time we will work on objects beginning with that letter, color pictures, and write the letters. 

This month we are also working on a unit called “All About Me;” positions; writing their name; and learning to tie their shoes, and say addresses, phone numbers, and birthdays.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our fund-raiser.  Our top three sellers were Briley Hyde, Maya & Ava Hurst, and Chelsey Harper.  We made $310.00.  Thank you.

Peel to Save Fund-Raiser


We are selling Peel to Save coupon cards for a fund-raiser for Sunshine School and extended care.  The fund-raiser will run through December 16th.  There are cards for both Lawrence County and Monroe County available.  Please use the order forms on the back of the sheets with the pictures of the cards to take orders.  Money is due when ordering and can be collected in the envelope included.  At any time the order forms and money can be returned to us to receive the cards ordered.  For every 10 cards each child sells, they get one free card in return.  We have a goal of 10 cards sold by each child.  If you want a PDF of one or both cards to e-mail the information about the cards to others, please e-mail Rena at milligan00@yahoo.com.  Thanks.

We will be sending home advent chains on December 1st.  The children should take off one candy cane each day starting at the bottom beginning on December 1st.  When they take off the last one, the next day will be Christmas.

Our Sleepover will be on Friday, December 2nd.  This is to give you an evening to shop or wrap presents.  Older siblings are welcome to come to the Sleepover also.  It will begin at 7:00 on Friday evening.  We will be going Christmas caroling first.  If you can help with this, please let us know.  The children need to bring a sleeping bag or bed roll, pajamas, pillow, clothes for Saturday, and one favorite stuffed animal.  Please put your child’s name on everything.  Santa Claus will come around 9:00 pm to hear what the children want for Christmas.  You will need to pick up your child by 10:00 Saturday morning.  We will have breakfast here.  There is a $10.00 charge for the Sleepover.  Please let us know by November 29th if your child will be attending so we can plan for breakfast.

Thanksgiving Week and Sleepover Reminders

Our Sleepover will be on Friday, December 2nd.  This is to give you an evening to shop or wrap presents.  Older siblings are welcome to come to the Sleepover also.  It will begin at 7:00 on Friday evening.  We will be going Christmas caroling first.  If you can help with this, please let us know.  The children need to bring a sleeping bag or bedroll, pajamas, pillow, clothes for Saturday, and one favorite stuffed animal.  Please put your child’s name on everything.  Santa Claus will come around 9:00 pm to hear what the children want for Christmas.  You will need to pick up your child by 10:00 Saturday morning.  We will have breakfast here.  There is a $10.00 charge for the Sleepover.  Please let us know by November 29th if your child will be attending so we can plan for breakfast.

On Thursday, October 27th, we will be having our Harvest Party instead of a Halloween Party.  The children need to come to class in costume dressed as something related to farming or autumn.  Will the following children's mothers please send a special treat for our party:  Emily Bradford, Mylee Branaman, and Alex Carmichael.

In our safety unit we are presenting dangers and what to do or how to avoid them.  We want the children to be aware.  If you have any questions, please let us know.

Fall Break will be October 20th.  We will have daycare Monday through Wednesday.

About Your Teachers

          Rohnda is married to Bob, who is a retired fisheries research biologist at the Avoca Fish Hatchery.  She has two daughters--Rena (see below) and Robyn.  Rohnda has a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University in elementary education with a minor in kindergarten.  She holds a master’s degree from Indiana University in elementary education with an emphasis in early childhood.  Rohnda began teaching third grade at Brownstown Elementary.  This is her 26th year to have Sunshine School.  Rohnda and Rena attend River’s Edge Fellowship Church.  Rohnda likes to collect magnets and owls and to read, read, and read when she can find the time.

          Rena graduated from Milligan College in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in early childhood and elementary education.  This is her 12th year teaching.  She likes to collect keychains, and to read, shop, and watch sports, particularly IU basketball, the Atlanta Braves, and the Indianapolis Colts.

Sunshine School Reminders Note


If you come for daycare before school, we need your child to be here by 8:15 or wait to come in at 8:30.  This is so we can finish getting ready for the school day.

Also, if you have not brought a snack for the month or tissues, cups, and napkins for the school year yet, please do soon.  There are currently 14 children in the class.  We need 1 package of napkins (200 count), 1 box of 5-ounce Dixie cups (200 count), and 1 box of tissues.  Please do not send larger-sized cups.

After School Please Call and Bring Supplies Note


Please call before 2:00 if possible if your child does not need to be picked up from school as expected.  Rohnda leaves at 2:00 to go over to the school to get in the car line and she needs to know by then or there will be a $3 charge for daycare.  It saves her a trip to the office to check on your child. 

Please pay at least every 2 weeks.  No longer please.

Also, if you have not brought tissues and napkins for the school year yet, please do soon.  It is a 200-count box of tissue and a 200-count package of napkins.

This month your child will explore the world of learning and will develop many new basic skills. Encourage your child to practice and develop these new skills. During the coming weeks, we will study about Fall, colors, letters, manners, Johnny Appleseed, and grandparents. Our calendar shows when we are studying each color and letter. We will introduce a new color every day and two new letters each week.

We would ask you to send a snack for the class each month on the first day of the month. There are currently 16 children in the class. Example: If you send a package of cookies make sure that there will be two cookies for each child. Please send the same snack for everyone.

For the year each child needs to bring the following: 1 package of napkins (200 count), 1 box of 5-ounce Dixie cups (200 count), and 1 box of tissues. Please do not send larger-sized cups.

If your child is sick or will not be attending, please call before class begins. If your child misses one day in a week, it is still to be paid for. If your child misses 2 days in a row, he will get credit for the second day the next week.

Please put your child’s name on their coat, sweater, or any other items brought from home. Please double knot your child’s shoes.

We will come out and get the children for class. Please do not come inside the gate. We will also bring the children back out to the gate after class.

Show and Tell will begin in October.

Preschool class pictures will be Tuesday, September 20th, during school time. Steve Sheldon will be coming down from Bloomington to take the pictures. There will be both individual and class pictures taken. Proofs will be sent home later and pictures can be ordered then. Money is not needed when the pictures are taken.

New School Rates for 2011-2012

This school year we will be lowering our school rates to

$24 a week for 3 days
$16 a week for 2 days

Registration is still $50 and is due July 1st.
