March 2020 Newsletter


Week of March 3rd to 5th:  Q, R, & S Week; Queens; Rabbits: Sailboats; and Review

Week of March 10th to 12th:  St. Patrick's Day

Week of March 17th to 19th:  St. Patrick's Day; T, U, & V Week; Trains; Umbrellas; and Vets

Spring Break—March 24th, 25th, & 26th—No Class or Daycare


We will be closed the week of March 23rd.  There will be no school or daycare.

REMINDER:  If the North Lawrence schools are called off because of the weather, we will also be called off.  Also, if there is a two-hour delay, class will be from 10:00-1:00.  Daycare will still be open regular hours.

If we miss 1 school day because of weather, you still need to pay for that day.  If we miss 2 or 3 days any one week, you still pay for the 1 day that week.

Valentine’s Day Party Reminder


Next Thursday, February 13th, we will have a Valentine’s Day Party and Valentine Day Card Exchange.  We will be making Valentine’s Delivery Trucks for our valentine cards.  Please do not put any other children’s names on the card’s outside or envelopes.  Each child sends one to everyone in the class, but they just sign their own names on the back of the cards.  There are currently 20 in the class.  The cards should be brought February 11th and 12th.

Will the following children’s mothers please send a special snack for our Valentine Party:  Deakon Nalley, Callie Phillips, Lincoln Pond, and Logan Sims.

February 2020 Newsletter

We will be studying about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.  Your child should know many interesting facts about them by the end of the month.

January 2020 Newsletter

We will begin going through the alphabet again.  This time we will work on objects beginning with each letter, color pictures, and write the letters.

This month we are also working on a unit called “All About Me”; positions; writing their names; and learning to tie their shoes, addresses, phone numbers, and birthdays.

Christmas Vacation Reminder


Just a reminder:  Our last day of school before Christmas Vacation is this Thursday, December 19th.  We will resume school on Tuesday, January 7th.  The last day will we have extended care will be this Friday, December 20th.  We will resume extended care on Monday, January 6th.

December 2019 Newsletter


Week of December 3rd to 5th -- Begin Numbers Unit; 1 & 2; 3 & 4; Christmas; and Christmas in Africa, Mexico, and England
December 5th -- Book Orders Due

Week of December 10th to 12th -- 3 & 4; 5 & 6; Christmas; and Christmas in France, Italy, and Germany

Week of December 17th to 19th -- 7 & 8; Christmas; and Christmas in Holland, Sweden, Australia 


Please remember to have your child bring something for Show and Tell on their assigned day.  This is important, as it is their first public speaking.

We will be sending home advent chains on December 3rd.  The children should take off one candy cane each day starting at the bottom beginning on December 3rd.  When they take off the last one, it will be Christmas.

On Thursday, December 19th, we will have our Christmas Party and Gift Exchange.  The gift should cost around $5.00.  The boys need to bring a boy’s gift and the girls need to bring a girl’s gift.  Please bring your gift by Thursday, December 12th.  Will the following children’s mothers please send a special snack for the party:  Charleigh Johnson, Violet Manion, Noah Myers, and Sadie Myers.  There are 17 in the class.

Our last day of school before Christmas Vacation is Thursday, December 19th.  We will resume school on Tuesday, January 7th.  The last day will we have extended care will be Friday, December 20th.  We will resume extended care on Monday, January 6th.

We hope that you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  Remember that Jesus is the reason for the season.

Election Day Reminder

Just a reminder:  NLCS schools and Sunshine School are closed this Tuesday, November 5th.  We WILL be open for daycare, however.  It will only be $24 for preschool for the week.

School Pictures Reminder


Reminder:  Preschool class pictures will be Wednesday, October 23rd, during school time.  Steve Sheldon will be coming down from Bloomington to take the pictures.  There will be both individual and class pictures taken.  Proofs will be sent home later and pictures can be ordered then.  Money is not needed when the pictures are taken.

In our safety unit we are presenting dangers and what to do or how to avoid them.  We want the children to be aware.  If you have any questions, please let us know.

Please remember to call us before class starts if your child is not going to be here.

We will be closed for Fall Break for preschool from October 15th to 17th.  We will also be closed for daycare from October 14th to 18th.

On Thursday, October 31st, we will be having our Harvest Party, instead of a Halloween Party.  The children need to come to class dressed as something related to farming or autumn (or at least not scary).  Will the following children please bring a special treat for our party:  Liam Chenault, Holten Harding, and Avarey Hernandez.  We divide the class up to have some kids bringing snacks to each party.  There are 15 people in the class.

About Your Teachers

          Rohnda is married to Bob, who is a retired fisheries research biologist at the Avoca Fish Hatchery.  She has two daughters—Rena (see below) and Robyn.  Rohnda has a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University in elementary education with a minor in kindergarten.  She holds a master’s degree from Indiana University in elementary education with an emphasis in early childhood.  Rohnda began teaching third grade at Brownstown Elementary.  This is her 34th year to have Sunshine School.  Rohnda and Rena attend Englewood Baptist Church.  Rohnda likes to collect magnets and owls and to read, read, read, and read when she can find the time.

          Rena graduated from Milligan College in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood and elementary education.  This is her 20th year teaching.  She likes to collect keychains, to read, shop, and watch sports, particularly IU basketball and the Atlanta Braves.

This month your child will explore the world of learning and will develop many new basic skills.  Encourage your child to practice and develop these new skills.  During the coming weeks, we will study about colors, letters, alligators, bears, cats, dogs, carpenters, eggs, frogs, and grandparents.  Our calendar shows when we are studying each color and letter.  We will introduce a new color every day and two new letters each week.

For the year, each child needs to bring the following:  1 package of napkins (200 count) and 1 box of tissues (200 count). 

If your child is sick or will not be attending, please call before class begins.  If your child misses one day in a week, it is still to be paid for.  If your child misses 2 days in a row, he will get credit for the second day the next week.

Please put your child’s name on their coat, sweater, or any other items brought from home.  Please double knot your child’s shoes.

We will come out and get the children for class.  Please do not come inside the gate.  We will also bring the children back out to the gate after class.  Also, please hand us any money, notes, etc. instead of putting them in the children’s backpacks.  Thank you.

Show and Tell will begin in October.

Class pictures will be taken on Wednesday, October 23rd.  More information later.

Summer 2019 Calendar & Class Schedule

May 22nd -- Last Day of School Sunshine School

May 23rd -- Closed/Sunshine School Graduation

May 24th -- Start Summer Daycare

May 27th -- Memorial Day (Closed)

May 29th -- Last Day of School NLCS

We will be open regular daycare hours the week of May 28th to 31st.

Daycare rates are $1 an hour per child.  Please let us know in advance if your child will or will not be attending.  We’re open 6:30-5:30.  Children need to bring a lunch, a drink, and a fork and/or spoon if needed.  We do not microwave.  Children also need to bring a blanket and pillow for rest time after lunch.

We can give kids rides back and forth from Cat Camp if needed.

We will be learning about the 23rd Psalm this summer.  Class times are from 9:00 to 1:00 on Thursdays.  Lunch is from 11:00 to 12:00 every day. 

Please bring a package of napkins (200-count package) for the summer.

Rena will be tutoring between 9:00 and 5:30 this summer.  Please let her know as soon as possible if you are interested.

Fund-Raiser Reminder, Summer Plans, & Preschool Registration

Our fund-raiser ends this Thursday, April 4th.  Please return money to exchange for the Peel-to-Save cards on or before that day.

We need to know as soon as possible about everyone’s plans for this summer for daycare and tutoring so we can know how make sure we have enough spots for everyone.

We have already started registering kids for next year for preschool.  We have a few spots left, including the kids returning from this year.  If you know of anyone interested, please have them get with us soon.
