May Reminders

We will be having class next Tuesday, May 7th, Primary Day, even though NLCS will be closed.  We will be open regular hours for daycare that day also.

 

·       There will not be any class or extended care on Thursday, May 9th.  For students not graduating, cost for the week will be $28.  For students graduating it will be $42.  We will be open regular hours on Friday, May 10th.

 

·       Graduation will be Thursday, May 9th at 6:30 p.m.  All the graduates need to be here by 6:15 to get ready.  Graduation will begin at 6:30 for parents, relatives, and friends.  It will be here at the preschool.  Graduation is only for the kids who will be attending kindergarten next year.  The children will be wearing caps and gowns.  Girls—please do not wear ponytails or anything on top of your head. 

 

·       Please let us know soon if your child will be coming for daycare this summer.  We will be closed for Memorial Day, May 27th, and for 2 weeks, July 1st to 12th, but open the rest of the summer. We will be learning about some Bible stories on Thursdays in June from 9:00 to 1:00.  We will share more information later.

 

·       Rena will be tutoring children this summer.  This is for children going into kindergarten through Algebra.  If you are interested, please let us know.  We are trying to finalize that schedule.

 

·       If you have a child or know of someone who might be interested in school for next year, they need to let us know soon.  Registration is $100 and is due by June 28th.

May 2024 Newsletter

Week of April 30 to May 2nd -- Continue Dinosaur Unit: Pteranodon, Triceratops, and Tyrannosaurus Rex; Mother's Day Surprise

Week of May 7th and 8th -- Summer Birthdays, Summer, Baseball, Last Day of School, and Memorial Day

May 9th -- No School

 

We will be continuing to practice graduation songs this month.


We will have class Tuesday, May 7th.  NLCS is closed for Primary Day, but we will be open since we're closed on Thursday.

 

There will not be any class or extended care on Thursday, May 9th.  For students not graduating, cost for the week will be $28.  For students graduating it will be $42.

April 2024 Newsletter

Easter Party and Spring Break Reminder

The Easter Party will be this Thursday, March 21st.  There are currently 10 people in the class.  Will the following children please bring a special snack:  Addison Cobb and Saylor Lybrook.

 

We will be closed next week, the week of March 25th, for Spring Break.  There will be no school or daycare.

Valentine’s Day Party and Card Exchange Reminder

Next Wednesday, February 14th, we will have a Valentine’s Day Party and Valentine Card Exchange.  We will be making Valentine Delivery Trucks for our valentine cards.  Please do not put any other children’s names on the card’s outside or envelopes.  Each child sends one to everyone else in their class, but they just sign their own names on the back of the cards.  There are currently 12 in the class.  The cards should be brought by Tuesday, February 13th.

 

Will the following children’s mothers please send a special snack for our Valentine Party: Lillian Sullivan, Calin Wilson, and Beretta Wright.

January 2024 Newsletter

Week of January 3rd to 4th -- A & B Week, Arctic, Begin Positions Unit--Under & On Week, Winter, and All About Me

We will begin going through the alphabet again.  This time we will work on objects beginning with each letter, color pictures, and write the letters.

 

This month we are also working on a unit called “All About Me”, positions, writing their names, and learning to tie their shoes.

Just a reminder:  Next Wednesday, December 20th, we will have our Christmas Party and Gift Exchange.  The gift should cost around $5.00.  The boys need to bring a boy’s gift and the girls need to bring a girl’s gift.  Please bring your gift by this Thursday, December 14th.  Will the following children’s mothers please send a special snack for the party:  Millie Manion, Beau Sims, and Ella Stewart.  There are 12 in the class.

Advent Chain Instructions

Starting December 1st, the children should take off one candy cane each day starting at the bottom beginning tomorrow, Friday, December 1st.  When they take off the last one, the next day will be Christmas, so count the sticker as Christmas Day.

This Thursday, October 26th, we will be having our Harvest Party, instead of a Halloween Party.  The children need to come to class dressed as something related to farming or autumn (or at least not scary).  Will the following children please bring a special treat for our party:  Addison Cobb and Saylor Lybrook .  We divide the class up to have some kids bringing snacks to each party.  There are 12 people in the class.

In our safety unit we are presenting dangers and what to do or how to avoid them.  We want the children to be aware.  If you have any questions, please let us know.

About Your Teachers

 

          Rohnda is married to Bob, who is a retired fisheries research biologist at the Avoca Fish Hatchery.  She has two daughters—Rena (see below) and Robyn.  Rohnda has a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University in elementary education with a minor in kindergarten.  She holds a master’s degree from Indiana University in elementary education with an emphasis in early childhood.  Rohnda began teaching third grade at Brownstown Elementary.  This is her 38th year to have Sunshine School.  Rohnda and Rena attend Englewood Baptist Church.  Rohnda likes to collect magnets and owls and to read, read, read, and read when she can find the time.

 

          Rena graduated from Milligan College in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood and elementary education.  This is her 24th year teaching.  She likes to collect keychains, read, shop, and watch sports, particularly IU basketball and the Atlanta Braves.

August 2023 Newsletter

Week of August 8th to 10th -- A & B Week; Alligators; Bears; Red, Brown, & Orange Days; and Back to School


Week of August 15th to 17th -- C & D Week; Cats; Carpenters; Dogs; Purple, Black, & Yellow Days;  and Color Mixing


Week of August 22nd to 24th -- E & F Week, Eggs, Frogs, Green & Blue Days, Color Review, Grandparents

 

This month your child will explore the world of learning and will develop many new basic skills.  Encourage your child to practice and develop these new skills.  During the coming weeks, we will study about colors, letters, alligators, bears, cats, dogs, carpenters, eggs, frogs, and grandparents.  Our calendar shows when we are studying each color and letter.  We will introduce a new color every day and two new letters each week.

 

For the year, each child needs to bring the following:  1 package of napkins (200 count) and 1 box of tissues (200 count). 

 

If your child is sick or will not be attending, please call before class begins.  If your child misses any days in a week, they are still to be paid for

 

Please put your child’s name on their coat, sweater, or any other items brought from home.  Please double knot your child’s shoes.

 

We will come out and get the children for class.  Please do not come inside the gate.  We will also bring the children back out to the gate after class.  Also, please hand us any money, notes, etc. instead of putting them in the children’s backpacks.  Thank you.

 

Show and Tell will begin in October.
