Fundraiser and Harvest Party Reminders

A couple of reminders:

· For both school and extended care: fundraiser forms and money are due this Wednesday, October 28th. All money due must be turned in at this time.

· For school: this Thursday, October 29th, we will be having our Harvest Party instead of a Halloween Party. The children need to come to class in costume dressed as something related to farming or autumn. Will the following children's mothers please send a special treat for our party: Cole Baker, Gavin Burrage, Larissa Carmichael, and Izabel Gilbert.

Picture Proofs Due Today

Just a reminder: The kids’ picture proofs are due today, Wednesday, October 7th. The proofs need to be returned whether or not you are ordering pictures. Thank you.

October 2009 Newsletter

Week of October 6th to 8th--M & N Week, Cut Curves, Fire Safety, Monkeys, and Night.

Week of October 13th to 15th--O & P Week, Cut Waves, Owls, Pumpkins, Pizza, Fall, and Christopher Columbus.

Week of October 20th to 21st--Q & R Week, Cut Zigzags, Quilts, Raccoons, and Safety
October 22nd--Fall Break

Week of October 27th to 29th--S Week, Cutting Review, Scarecrows, Squirrels, and Safety
Ocober 29th--Harvest Party


Thank you for sending snacks. They are very appreciated. We have 18 people in the class. Please send a snack at the beginning of each month.

In our safety unit we are presenting dangers and what to do or how to avoid them. We want the children to be aware. If you have any questions, please let us know.

Fall Break will be October 22nd. We will have daycare Monday through Wednesday.

About Your Teachers

Rohnda is married to Bob, who is a fisheries research biologist at the Avoca Fish Hatchery. She has two daughters--Rena (see below) and Robyn. Rohnda has a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University in elementary education with a minor in kindergarten. She holds a master’s degree from Indiana University in elementary education with an emphasis in early childhood. Rohnda began teaching third grade at Brownstown Elementary. This is her 24th year to have Sunshine School. Her family attends Bedford First Baptist Church. Rohnda likes to collect magnets and owls and to read, read, and read when she can find the time.

Rena graduated from Milligan College in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in early childhood and elementary education. This is her 10th year teaching. She likes to collect keychains, and to read, shop, and watch sports, particularly IU basketball, the Atlanta Braves, and the Indianapolis Colts.

This month your child will explore the world of learning and will develop many new basic skills. Encourage your child to practice and develop these new skills. During the coming weeks, we will study about Fall, colors, letters, manners, Johnny Appleseed, and grandparents. Our calendar shows when we are studying each color and letter. We will introduce a new color every day and two new letters each week.

We would ask you to send a snack for the class each month on the first day of the month. There are currently 23 children in the class. Example: If you send a package of cookies make sure that there will be two cookies for each child. Please send the same snack for everyone.

For the year each child needs to bring the following: 1 package of napkins (200 count), 1 box of 5-ounce Dixie cups (200 count), and 1 box of tissues. Please do not send larger-sized cups.

If your child is sick or will not be attending, please call before class begins. If your child misses one day in a week, it is still to be paid for. If your child misses 2 days in a row, he will get credit for the second day the next week.

Please put your child’s name on their coat, sweater, or any other items brought from home. Please double knot your child’s shoes.

We will come out and get the children for class. Please do not come inside the gate. We will also bring the children back out to the gate after class.

Show and Tell will begin in October.
