Thank you for sending all of the delicious snacks at the beginning of each month.
We will begin going through the alphabet again. This time we will work on objects beginning with that letter, color pictures, and write the letters.
This month we are also working on a unit called “All About Me;” positions; writing their name; and learning to tie their shoes, and say addresses, phone numbers, and birthdays.
On Thursday, February 14th, we will have a Valentine’s Day Party and Valentine Day Card Exchange. We will be making Valentine’s Delivery Trucks for our valentine cards. Please do not put any names on the valentine envelopes. Each child sends one to everyone in the class, but they just sign their names on the back of the card and leave the envelope blank. There are 24 children in the class. The cards may be brought the 12th-14th.
Will the following children’s mothers please send a special snack for our Valentine Party: Evan Murphy, Max Nolan, Abigail Parker, Derrick Price and Izabella Shew.
REMINDER: If the North Lawrence schools are called off for weather reasons, we will also be called off. Also, if there is a two-hour delay, class will be from 10:00-12:00.

On Wednesday, October 31st, we will be having our Harvest Party instead of a Halloween Party. The children need to come to class in costume dressed as something related to farming or autumn. Will the following children's mothers please send a special treat for our party: Macee Burnette, Kameron Butcher, Emma and Gracee Canada, Javier Childers, and Riley Deon.
In our safety unit we are presenting dangers and what to do or how to avoid them. We want the children to be aware. If you have any questions, please let us know.
Fall Break will be October 18th. We will have daycare Monday through Wednesday.

Rohnda is married to Bob, who is a fisheries research biologist at the Avoca Fish Hatchery. She has two daughters--Rena (see below) and Robyn. Rohnda has a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University in elementary education with a minor in kindergarten. She holds a master’s degree from Indiana University in elementary education with an emphasis in early childhood. Rohnda began teaching third grade at Brownstown Elementary. This is her 20th year to have Sunshine Nursery. Her family attends Bedford First Baptist Church. Rohnda likes to collect magnets and owls and to read, read, and read when she can find the time.
Rena graduated from Milligan College in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in early childhood and elementary education. This is her eighth year teaching. She likes to collect keychains, and to read, shop, and watch sports, particularly IU basketball, the Atlanta Braves, and the Indianapolis Colts.

Week of August 28th to 30th -- letters C & D; colors purple, black, and yellow; cats; dogs; and carpenters; book orders due
Week of September 4th to 6th -- letters E & F, colors green and blue, frogs, eggs, and grandparents
Week of September 11th to 13th -- letters G & H, manners, apples, goats, hedgehogs
Week of September 18th to 20th -- letters I & J, manners, apples, iguanas, inchworms, jaguars
Week of September 25th to 27th -- letters K & L, fire safety, cutting, kangaroos, koalas, and lions
This month your child will explore the world of learning and will develop many new basic skills. Encourage your child to practice and develop these new skills. During the coming weeks, we will study about Fall, colors, letters, manners, Johnny Appleseed, and grandparents. Our calendar shows when we are studying each color and letter. We will introduce a new color every day and two new letters each week.
We would ask you to send a snack for the class each month on the first day of the month. There are currently 21 children in the class. Example: If you send a package of cookies make sure that there will be two cookies for each child. Please send the same snack for everyone.
For the year each child needs to bring the following: 1 package of napkins (200 count) and 1 box of 5-ounce Dixie cups (200 count). Please do not send larger size cups.
If your child is sick or will not be attending, please call before class begins. If your child misses one day in a week, it is still to be paid for. If your child misses 2 days in a row, he will get credit for the second day the next week.
Please put your child’s name on their coat, sweater, or any other items brought from home. Please double knot your child’s shoes.
We will come out and get the children for class. Please do not come inside the gate. We will also bring the children back out to the gate after class.
Show and Tell will begin in October.
On Friday, September 14th, there is an NLCS Half Day. We will have daycare all day like normal that day. Dollens gets out at 12:30 and Oolitic Middle School at 12:40. Dollens A.M. Kindergarten is from 8:00 to 10:00 and P.M. Kindergarten is from 10:30 to 12:30.

We will be closed the entire week of March 26th. There will be no daycare.

We will be evaluating the students that will be entering kindergarten next year beginning this month.
We need each child to again bring 1 box of 5 ounce cups (200 count) and 1 package of napkins (200 count). We are starting to run out. Thanks.
Kindergarten screening at Dollens is Wednesday, March 13th. Please call the school (275-3885) to schedule an individual time for your child. For children that will be attending other schools, contact that school for screening dates and to schedule a time for your child. Birth certificates are required at screening.
We will be having our spring fund-raiser at the end of this month. More information later. With the money raised from the fall fund-raiser we were able to buy a DVD player, combination music player, which has a radio and plays CD, records, and tapes, and some books.
Reminder: If the North Lawrence Schools are called off for weather reasons, we will also be called off. Also, if there is a two-hour delay, class will be from 10:00-12:00.
