We will be studying about AbrahamLincoln and George Washington. Your child should know many interesting facts about them by the end ofthe month.

Reminder: On Tuesday, February 14^th,we will be having a Valentine’s Day Party and Card Exchange. We will be making Valentine Delivery Trucksfor our valentine cards. Please donot put names on the valentine envelopes. Each child sends one to everyone in the class, but they just signtheir name on the back of the card and leave the envelope blank. There are 13 people in the class. These may be brought from the 7^thto the 9^th.

Reminder: Will the following children’s mothersplease send a special snack for our Valentine Party: Owen Robbins, Isaiah Sasser, and DevinSilvers.

Reminder: If the North Lawrence Schools are called off for weather reasons,we will also be called off. Also, if there is a two-hour delay, classwill be from 10:00-12:00.

We will be evaluating the students thatwill be entering kindergarten next year beginning the week of February 28^th.

Snow Days Note

If the North Lawrence schools are closed because of bad weather, our school is also closed.

If the North Lawrence schools have a two-hour delay, our class will be from 10:00 to 12:00.

If schools are closed, we will still be open for extended care for our usual hours of 6:30 to 5:30 if you need us.

We will begin going through the alphabetagain. This time we will work onobjects beginning with that letter, color pictures, and write the letters.

This month we are also working on a unitcalled “All About Me;” positions; writing their name; and learningto tie their shoes, and say addresses, phone numbers, and birthdays.

Thank you to everyone who participated inour fund-raiser. Our top three sellers were Briley Hyde, Maya & Ava Hurst, andChelsey Harper. We made $310.00. Thank you.

Peel to Save Fund-Raiser

We are selling Peel to Save coupon cards for afund-raiser for Sunshine School and extended care. The fund-raiser will run through December 16^th. There are cards for both Lawrence County andMonroe County available. Please use theorder forms on the back of the sheets with the pictures of the cards to takeorders. Money is due when ordering andcan be collected in the envelope included. At any time the order forms and money can be returned to us to receivethe cards ordered. About Your Teachers

Rohnda is married to Bob, who is a retired fisheries research biologist at the Avoca Fish Hatchery. She has two daughters--Rena (see below) andRobyn. Rohnda has a bachelor’s degreefrom Indiana State University in elementary education with a minor inkindergarten. She holds a master’sdegree from Indiana University in elementary education with an emphasis inearly childhood. Rohnda began teachingthird grade at Brownstown Elementary. This is her 26^th year to have Sunshine School. Rohnda and Rena attend River’s Edge FellowshipChurch. Rohnda likes to collect magnetsand owls and to read, read, and read when she can find the time.

Rena graduated from Milligan Collegein 2000 with a bachelor's degree in early childhood and elementaryeducation. This is her 12^thyear teaching. She likes to collectkeychains, and to read, shop, and watch sports, particularly IU basketball, theAtlanta Braves, and the Indianapolis Colts.

Preschool Pictures Note

If you come for daycare before school, we need your child to be here by 8:15 or wait to come in at 8:30. This is so we can finish getting ready for the school day.

Also, if you have not brought a snack for the month or tissues, cups, and napkins for the school year yet, please do soon. There are currently 14 children in the class. We need 1 package of napkins (200 count), 1 box of 5-ounce Dixie cups (200 count), and 1 box of tissues. Please do not send larger-sized cups.

After School Please Call and Bring Supplies Note

Please call before 2:00 ifpossible if your child does not need to be picked up from school as expected. Rohnda leaves at 2:00 to go over to theschool to get in the car line and she needs to know by then or there will be a$3 charge for daycare. It saves her atrip to the office to check on your child.

Please pay atleast every 2 weeks. No longer please.

Also, if you havenot brought tissues and napkins for the school year yet, please do soon. It is a 200-count box of tissue and a200-count package of napkins.

This month your child will explore the world of learning and will develop many new basic skills. Encourage your child to practice and develop these new skills. During the coming weeks, we will study about Fall, colors, letters, manners, Johnny Appleseed, and grandparents. Our calendar shows when we are studying each color and letter. We will introduce a new color every day and two new letters each week.

We would ask you to send a snack for the class each month on the first day of the month. There are currently 16 children in the class. Example: If you send a package of cookies make sure that there will be two cookies for each child. Please send the same snack for everyone.

For the year each child needs to bring the following: 1 package of napkins (200 count), 1 box of 5-ounce Dixie cups (200 count), and 1 box of tissues. Please do not send larger-sized cups.

If your child is sick or will not be attending, please call before class begins. If your child misses one day in a week, it is still to be paid for. If your child misses 2 days in a row, he will get credit for the second day the next week.

Please put your child’s name on their coat, sweater, or any other items brought from home. Please double knot your child’s shoes.

We will come out and get the children for class. Please do not come inside the gate. We will also bring the children back out to the gate after class.

Show and Tell will begin in October.

Honor Day and Summer Daycare

We need to know what your kids are doing on Honor Day, which is Thursday, June 2nd. We need to know if your kids are coming here that day or not, and when they will be here. If they need to be picked up at school, we need to know when to pick them up. We will be having our normal daycare that day from 6:30 to 5:30. If your kids will be here for lunch, which will probably be around 12:00, they will need to bring their own lunch, including a drink and eating utensils. We will not be able to microwave lunches.

Also, summer daycare will be officially starting the following day Friday, June 3rd. Kids will need to bring their lunches, including drinks and eating utensils, each day. We will not be able to microwave lunches.

There will be no class on Thursday, May 26th. For students not graduating cost will be $20 that week. For students graduating it will be $30.

Graduation will be Thursday, May 26th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. All the graduates need to be here at 6:45 to get ready. Graduation will begin at 7:00 for parents, relatives, and friends. It will be here at the preschool. Graduation is only for the kids who will be attending kindergarten next year. The children will be wearing caps and gowns. Girls—please do not wear ponytails or anything on top of your head. Refreshments will follow the ceremony.

Rena will be tutoring children this summer. This is for children going into kindergarten through 8th grade. If you are interested, please let us know. We are trying to finalize that schedule.

Spring Mill Field Trip Cancelled

About Your Teachers

Rohnda is married to Bob, who is a fisheries research biologist at the Avoca Fish Hatchery. She has two daughters--Rena (see below) and Robyn. Rohnda has a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University in elementary education with a minor in kindergarten. She holds a master’s degree from Indiana University in elementary education with an emphasis in early childhood. Rohnda began teaching third grade at Brownstown Elementary. This is her 25th year to have Sunshine School. Rohnda and Rena attend River’s Edge Fellowship Church. Rohnda likes to collect magnets and owls and to read, read, and read when she can find the time.

Rena graduated from Milligan College in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood and elementary education. This is her eleventh year teaching. She likes to collect keychains, and to read, shop, and watch sports, particularly IU basketball and the Atlanta Braves.

This month your child will explore the world of learning and will develop many new basic skills. Encourage your child to practice and develop these new skills. During the coming weeks, we will study about Fall, colors, letters, manners, Johnny Appleseed, and grandparents. Our calendar shows when we are studying each color and letter. We will introduce a new color every day and two new letters each week.

We would ask you to send a snack for the class each month on the first day of the month. There are currently 16 children in the class. Example: If you send a package of cookies make sure that there will be two cookies for each child. Please send the same snack for everyone.

For the year each child needs to bring the following: 1 box of tissues (200 count), 1 package of napkins (200 count), and 1 box of 5-ounce Dixie cups (200 count).

If your child is sick or will not be attending, please call before class begins. If your child misses one day in a week, it is still to be paid for. If your child misses 2 days in a row, he will get credit for the second day the next week.

Please put your child's name on their coat, sweater, or any other item brought from home. Please double knot your child's shoes.

We will come out and get the children for class. Please do not come inside the gate. We will also bring the children back out to the gate after class.

School pictures will be on Wednesday, September 22nd, during school time. Steve Sheldon will be coming down from Bloomington to take the pictures. There will be both individual and class pictures taken. Proofs will be sent home later and pictures can be ordered then. Money is not needed when the pictures are taken.

Show and Tell will begin in October.

Each child sends one to everyone in the class, but they just sign their name on the back of the card and leave the envelope blank. There are 18 people in the class. These may be brought from the 11th (maybe) and 16th.

There is a $10.00 charge for the Sleepover. Please let us know by December 1st if your child will be attending so we can plan for breakfast.

On Thursday, December 17th, we will have our Christmas Party and Gift Exchange. The gift should cost around $5.00. The boys need to bring a boy’s gift and the girl’s need to bring a girl’s gift. Our last day before Christmas Vacation is December 17th. We resume school on January 5th. The last day we will have extended care will be December 18th. We will resume extended care on January 4th.

About Your Teachers

Rohnda is married to Bob, who is a fisheries research biologist at the Avoca Fish Hatchery. She has two daughters--Rena (see below) and Robyn. Rohnda has a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University in elementary education with a minor in kindergarten. She holds a master’s degree from Indiana University in elementary education with an emphasis in early childhood. Rohnda began teaching third grade at Brownstown Elementary. This is her 24th year to have Sunshine School. Her family attends Bedford First Baptist Church. Rohnda likes to collect magnets and owls and to read, read, and read when she can find the time.

Rena graduated from Milligan College in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in early childhood and elementary education. This is her 10th year teaching. She likes to collect keychains, and to read, shop, and watch sports, particularly IU basketball, the Atlanta Braves, and the Indianapolis Colts.

This month your child will explore the world of learning and will develop many new basic skills. Encourage your child to practice and develop these new skills. During the coming weeks, we will study about Fall, colors, letters, manners, Johnny Appleseed, and grandparents. Our calendar shows when we are studying each color and letter. We will introduce a new color every day and two new letters each week.

We would ask you to send a snack for the class each month on the first day of the month. There are currently 23 children in the class. Example: If you send a package of cookies make sure that there will be two cookies for each child. Please send the same snack for everyone.

For the year each child needs to bring the following: 1 package of napkins (200 count), 1 box of 5-ounce Dixie cups (200 count), and 1 box of tissues. Please do not send larger-sized cups.

If your child is sick or will not be attending, please call before class begins. If your child misses one day in a week, it is still to be paid for. If your child misses 2 days in a row, he will get credit for the second day the next week.

Please put your child’s name on their coat, sweater, or any other items brought from home. Please double knot your child’s shoes.

We will come out and get the children for class. Please do not come inside the gate. We will also bring the children back out to the gate after class.

Show and Tell will begin in October.

A friend of ours is collecting plastic shopping bags for a project for church camp. They will be weaving the bags together to make soccer balls to send to missionaries in Africa to give to the kids there. The Easter Party will be on Thursday, April 9th. There are 23 people in the class. Will the following mothers please send a special snack: Ella Turner, Noah Wallbrown, Addeline Ward, Ashlyn Wever, and Gavin Burrage.

There is a NLCS Half-Day on April 17th.

Thursday, April 23rd, is our trip to Spring Mill from 10:00 to 2:00. Please let us know if you can drive and help us. Everyone needs to bring a sack lunch and 2 cans of pop or juice. We do not go to the souvenir stand.

Coming up in May:
Field Trip to the Avoca Fish Hatchery on May 7th from 10:00 to 2:00. We will again need help.
Begin Dinosaur Unit.
Graduation will be May 14th. This is only for the kids who will be attending kindergarten next year. It is from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. here at the school.

Reminder: On Thursday, February 12th, we will be having a Valentine’s Day Party and Card Exchange. We will be making Valentine Delivery Trucks for our valentine cards. Please do not put names on the valentine envelopes. Each child sends one to everyone in the class, but they just sign their name on the back of the card and leave the envelope blank. There are 23 people in the class. These may be brought from the 10th to the 12th.

We will begin going through the alphabet again. This time we will work on objects beginning with that letter, color pictures, and write the letters.

This month we are also working on a unit called “All About Me;” positions; writing their first name; and learning to tie their shoes, and say addresses and phone numbers.

On Thursday, February 12th, we will have a Valentine’s Day Party and Valentine Day Card Exchange. We will be making Valentine’s Delivery Trucks for our valentine cards. We are going Christmas Caroling on Tuesday, December 9th, to the stores in Oolitic and the Morning Kindergarten Class at Dollens. We will need 2 parents to help and drive.

Our Sleepover will be on Friday, December 5th. This is to give you an evening to shop or wrap presents. Older siblings are welcome to come to the Sleepover also. It will begin at 7:00 on Friday evening. We will be going Christmas caroling first. If you can help with this, please let us know. The children need to bring a sleeping bag or bedroll, pajamas, pillow, clothes for Saturday, and one favorite stuffed animal. Please put your child’s name on everything. Santa Claus will come around 9:00 pm to hear what the children want for Christmas. You will need to pick up your child by 10:00 Saturday morning. We will have breakfast here. There is a $10.00 charge for the Sleepover. Please let us know by December 2nd if your child will be attending so we can plan for breakfast.

Extended Care Week of Fall Break

The week of Fall Break (October 13-17), we will be open regular hours Monday through Wednesday and closed Thursday and Friday. Tuesday and Wednesday are half days with the kids getting out at 11:00 without having lunch at school. The kids will need to bring their own lunches, including drinks and eating utensils, those two days if they will be here after 12:00.

Tutoring Week of Fall Break

The week of Fall Break (October 13-17), I will be tutoring Monday through Wednesday only. On the half days Tuesday and Wednesday, I can start tutoring after 1:00. I can reschedule tutoring times for those days for earlier times, or keep them the same. Also, I can reschedule Thursday and Friday times on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please let me know if you want to reschedule, cancel, or keep tutoring times the same that week. Whatever you decide is fine with me, I just need to know ahead of time.
